Summer 2016

Last summer had some really high points and had some very low points for us.  Both girls decided to try sports camps for the first time.  Myla participated in a track camp.  It was hot every day, but she did a great job learning about different track events and running her heart out!  She loved getting a Popsicle at the end of each practice and she did a great job in her first track meet.  Lynley was excited to try tennis for the first time and she loved it!!  The camp was early in the morning, but she had so much fun that she didn't even complain about getting out of bed.
We spent the first half of summer swimming when we could and enjoying the break from school.  July 4th we had a cookout and spent most of the afternoon and evening outside getting ready for fireworks.  The bit of rain we had didn't even stop us!
We were also able to go to the State Fair with Grandpa Dave and Grandma Donna and see our baby cousin Roni.  AND Myla lost her first baby teeth!!!
Soon after July 4th we found out that Pa was very sick.  We spent lots of time as a family, enjoying every minute while also getting ready for a new school year.  Myla started Kindergarten and Lynley moved to the elementary school for 3rd grade.  Both really loved meeting their teachers and taking in all the new school supplies.  We celebrated Lynley's 9th birthday!  It was so hard to believe she turned NINE!  We also got to watch some of the summer Olympics!  Swimming and gymnastics seemed to be the Douglas Darling favorites.  It was a very busy time!
Just as summer was coming to a close and school was starting in full swing, Pa went to heaven.  It was (and still is) a really hard thing to think about, but we just keep remembering that he is with Jesus and one day we will get to see him again.
Here are some pictures from our summer.
